Part 3 β Pre-Inspection Self-Check (Complete Before Calling for Inspection)
- EPA certification label is present and legible on the stove (back or underside)
- All clearances measured and verified against certification label
- Hearth pad dimensions confirmed (measured from firebox opening, not stove body)
- Stovepipe joints: crimped (male) end faces DOWN toward stove throughout
- All stovepipe joints secured with minimum 3 sheet metal screws each
- Horizontal stovepipe sections pitched upward toward chimney (ΒΌ in. per foot)
- No single-wall stovepipe passes through walls, ceilings, or attic space
- Class A chimney used for all ceiling/roof penetrations
- 2-inch clearance maintained between chimney and all combustible framing in attic
- Chimney cap installed
- Working CO detector installed within 10 ft. of sleeping areas on stove's floor
- Working smoke detector in the room with the stove
- Permit posted or available on-site for inspector
Part 4 β After Inspection Sign-Off
- Keep inspection sign-off document in home files (needed for home sale disclosure)
- Notify homeowner's insurance β provide EPA certification number and permit number
- Schedule first chimney cleaning and inspection after first heating season
